For first season Wisconsin turkey hunters, it’s time to put up or shut up. In less than 24 hours I’ll be sitting beneath a tree, waiting on my gobbler. I’ll be using some of the tactics I’ve discussed in previous posts like non-vocal calling, the flock approach, and my favorite calling techniques. To keep you updated on what’s going on, I’ll be blogging everyday during my five day Wisconsin season (or until I’m lucky enough to harvest one) to let you know what’s working for me in the field. Whether you’re just curious about how birds are acting or you’re trying to game plan for your upcoming turkey season, these will be some posts you won’t want to miss.
I’ll be giving you updates on:
- How birds are responding to calls
- How toms birds are acting (are they still flocked up?)
- What times of the day I’m seeing most activity
- What strategies are working based off weather conditions
While looking at the five day forecast I’m a little worried by what I see. Here in central Wisconsin we’re supposed to have a nice opening day, but as the first season progresses, we’ll start making our way back to freezing rain and snow. How will the birds be reacting to this cool down? Tune in the next few days to my Larson Turkey Report to find out.
